Sci-Fi Geeks, Skateboarders, and College Kids Take Closer Look at Modified Skateboard

The Stowboard is generating a buzz this Christmas season in Hollywood and on the Internet.

A modified skateboard, the Stowboard's pop-culture debut in the John Woo movie Paycheck has garnered attention from sci-fi devotees as well as urban transportation enthusiasts.

Paycheck, based on a short story by the author who inspired Blade Runner, has apparently delivered this one time prop from a fictional accessory to a holiday season must have.

True to form, Stowboard looks like it belongs on a sci-fi set like Bladerunner and its impressive functionality has sci-fi geeks, skateboarders, and college kids taking a closer look.

The success of the Stowboard can be attributed, in part, to a renewed interest in alternatives to cars for short term urban commutes.

This phenomenon may have been instigated by the almost conspiratorial gossip surrounding the Segway when it was known only as "Ginger". Full market realization was proven in the meteoric sales increase in scooters over the past year.

The appeal of Stowboard is twofold: its futuristic look adds style to practical, safe, and inexpensive urban transportation. The wide base and flexible trucks give it more stability and maneuverability than traditional skateboards.

The Stowboard takes its name from its ability to quickly fold into a compact unit for storage.
