Tony Hawk Foundation sponsors Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship student
September 18, 2004 -- The Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship is pleased to announce that the Tony Hawk Foundation will sponsor a $1,000 college scholarship to one of our finalists.
Scholarships are awarded to students who have been activists for skateboarders in their community. The recipient of the scholarship sponsored by the Tony Hawk Foundation is Ahmad Toure. Ahmad was the president of the skateboard club on the U.S. military base in Grafenwohr, Germany and was responsible for getting skateboard equipment for the youth on the military base. He will attend American University in Washington, D.C.
About the Scholarship:
The Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship was created In January, 2003, in memory of Patrick Kerr, a 15 year old honor student and devoted skateboarder. With the support of the national skateboard community the scholarship has successfully completed its second year by awarding 10 new finalists with scholarships and prizes for their contribution to skateboarding.
There are 5 financial grants that are awarded from the Patrick Kerr Scholarship each presented by a major name in the skateboarding community. The Tony Hawk Foundation joins a distinguished list of sponsors including Activision and Tony Hawk's Underground 2, Jones Soda, and Mountain Dew.
To apply for the scholarship students must complete the essay question ‘How has skateboarding been a positive influence in your life?' The scholarship is open to high school seniors who have been accepted to a 2 or 4 year accredited college or technical school. Ten finalists are chosen annually and over $10,000 in college scholarships and awards are distributed among the finalists.
All Donations to the Skateboard Scholarship are greatly appreciated. Each donation is recognized in our annual report and on our online donor's page. The Patrick Kerr Skateboard Scholarship is a 501c(3) non-profit organization. All contributions are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.
