Skateboarding Legend Tony Hawk Chats at SYNGE.com July 25

COSTA MESA, California (July 18, 2000) - The man. The myth. Tony Hawk will be chatting with fans in an exclusive online engagement hosted by SYNGE.com, a premier pop culture destination, on July 25, 2000 from 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Pacific Time, at http://www.synge.com.

Hawk, who's often referred to as the Michael Jordan of skateboarding (although skating fans will say Jordan is the Tony Hawk of basketball), takes time out from his first-ever, hugely successful Tony Hawk's Gigantic Skatepark Tour to chat with fans about everything from trick tips to the X-Games, and more. Since going pro at age 14, Hawk has pulled off some of the most impossible and unimaginable feats— revolutionizing the sport of skateboarding. In June of 1999, when SYNGE.com asked Hawk what the key to his success was, Hawk replied, "I just enjoy doing it [skateboarding, and there's so much opportunity now with different events, and skate parks cropping up, it's just a whole new doorway."

Just hours after we spoke to Hawk, he make skateboard history by performing the "Holy Grail" of tricks that had so far eluded even him—the 900—at the '99 Summer X-Games. Hawk dazzled the crowd in the "Best Trick" competition by pulling off the ultimate skateboarding feat, two and a half rotations high above the half pipe, coming down with a perfect landing. It was the first time the 900 had ever been executed in a skateboarding competition.
