Gravity Fest athletes ready for a downhill battle.
September 18, 2004 -- This year's San Francisco Gravity Fest and will feature all the big time events – street luge, downhill skateboard racing, gravity bikes and downhill inline racing. And what more appropriate venue for these types of extreme gravity events than San Francisco's world-renowned hills and curves?
If he were alive today, Sir Isaac Newton would be proud of what his discovery has spawned.
Come check out the world's finest extreme gravity junkies as they gather on the West Coast to ride a host of awesome, ‘Newton-inspired' machines at Robert Wurgaft and David Miles' San Francisco Gravity Festival Sept. 24-26, held at McClaren Park.
This years annual festival is co-sponsored by Oakland-based Slide4less, a company dedicated to extreme sports and the daredevils who participate in them. The Gravity Fest is a national gravity event sanctioned by the International Gravity Sports Association (IGSA) and featuring pro riders from around the world. This year, IGSA winners in their respective events will be recognized as United States National Champions for 2004.
Slide4less will feature a host of electric, remote-controlled skateboards for sale, along with the precision-crafted Segway, one of the most popular personal vehicles available anywhere in the world. All board designs offered for sale by Slide4less represent cutting-edge developments in electrical, remote-operated and compact vehicles. These are the only electric skateboards in the world to offer truly effective remote operation, a necessity for rider safety.
But there's so much more to see and do than shop for the latest hip gadgets and watch racers battle nature and themselves as they hurtle down some of San Francisco's most dangerous hills. Athletes will be available to sign autographs and pose for pictures, while the event is sure to draw a wide array of spectators given the variety of national organizations that will have representatives competing, including the Northern California Downhill Skating Association (NCDSA).
Let's talk chicks.
"There will be more girls than ever at this event," says Slide4less partner, Steve Steinberg. "Last year there were 100 girl skaters and three really cute street lugers. I'm predicting even more.
"All the champions of both sexes will be there," he added. "This is the finals for the IGSA. It will draw everybody in Northern California."
Make sure to join us during the Gravity Fest, and take out one of the skateboards or Segways for a test run. Look for the slide4less banner.
